
Ilham Ahmed: Syria needs a genuine transitional process, and drafting of a new constitution, and a democratic electoral process under UN supervision
2025-02-10On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, a British delegation including Karen Constantine, Deputy Leader of the Labour Group at Kent County Council, Martin Round, Councillor and Mayor of Maidstone, Sir Roger Lyons, former President of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), and Jacen Kaplan, Director of Aviation at Mid Kent, visited the Department Foreign Relations in Qamishlo.
They were received by the co-chairs of the Foreign Relations Department, Ms. Ilham Ahmed and Mr. Fener Alkait, and the vice-chairs, Mr. Rubel Baho and Ms. Gulistan Ali.
The members of the administration body their vision of a decentralized system of government in Syria, where the regions have wide powers and the administration is interested in preserving this region administratively in the new Syria with all its components, Kurds, Arabs, and Syriacs, all participating in the same administration.
The members of the administrative body continued their speech by saying that we in the Democratic Self-Administration of North and East Syria(AANES), while we were and still are emphasizing that the Syrian people are able to heal their wounds and build a democratic and pluralistic Syria through genuine national dialogue between the components and spectra of the Syrian people.
However, the National Conference held in Damascus was disappointing and far from what Syrians aspire to, as the committee formed to prepare for the conference did not represent the components of the Syrian people and did not take into account the mosaic of the Syrian people.
In all our meetings and visits, we urge the international community to officially cooperate to establish projects and investments in the region, especially since the region is exempted from international sanctions to alleviate the suffering of the peoples of the region.

The delegation continued by saying that they are from several different parties and that they will work together to raise the voice of NES to the world, especially Britain. We expect international governments and embassies to do their job by supporting the building of a system that works from the bottom up and guarantees the rights of the cultures and sects present in this geography, and we will also convey the image of this system that exists here.
The delegation noted that the British people know a lot about Rojava and are very fond of the British people, but they do not know many details about this people, and it would be good to establish communication channels to promote joint cooperation between the two sides.
The delegation added that Britain is talking with France and others to help form a new Syria that represents and protects all components.
