The Department of Foreign Relations received an official delegation from the Kingdom of Denmark, on Thursday, 24 October, 2024. The delegation was led by Mr. Nicolaj Harris, the Danish Special representative to the Syrian Conflict, visiting the regions of the Democratic Autonomus Administration of North and East syria (DAANES). They were welcomed by Mr. Rubel Baho, the deputy co_chair of the Department of Foreign Relations.

Mr. Rubel Baho stated during the meeting that the regions of the DAANES are facing fierce attacks across North and East syria where the Turkish occupation uses various weapens including warplans, dornes and artilley shells, targeting infrastructure and power stations and security centers.

Baho condemned the international silence regarding the criminal Turkish attacks being launched on civilians, infrastructure, and service and security institutions.

Baho emphasized the need to stop these attacks because they activate ISIS cells to launch attacks against Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Global Coalition Forces. Thus, undermining all previous efforts in combating terrorism and halting the migration movement in our regions.

Baho pointed out that in response to recent events and the ongoing war in Lebanon, the DAANES launched an initiative that has welcomed nearly 20 thousands Syrian and Lebanese refugees into the regions of NES. We hope for solidarity in humanitarian efforts and the provision of aid to alleviate the suffering of the displaced.

Baho continued that the DAANES continues to cooperate with all countries in general, and  Denmark in praticular, in repatriation processes, and we are always open to developing relations and continuing meetings, wether it is in the regions of NES or abroad.

Mr. Nicolaj praised the partnership between the DAANES, SDF, and the Global Coalition, including Denmark. He stated that Denmark is grateful for the sacrifices made by SDF in the war against terrorism and ISIS, and emphasized the necessity of maintaining pressure on ISIS to ensure the region remains stable.

Nicolaj continued that Denmark at the political level has great knowledge of the critical economic, huminitarian and security situation in the region, and they are in constatnt communication with the DAANES representatives in Europe, and they are keeping us informed of the situation in NES.

Nicolaj confirmed that Denmark will continue its support for the region regarding the camps to maintain safety and stability in the region and also continue providing projects for stability in both Syria and Iraq.

At the end of the meeting, a woman and a child from the families of ISIS members who are Danish nationals were handed over, according to a repatriation document between the two sides.
