Mr Pierre Laurent, Vice-President of the French Senate, received in Paris a delegation from the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), which included Dr Abdulkarim Omar, President of the Foreign Relations Department of the AANES, Mr Abdulsalam Mustafa, AANES’ Representative to Europe, and Dr Khaled Issa, AANES’ Representative to France. The meeting dealt with the general situation in northeast Syria, and the most prominent challenges and obstacles facing the AANES, including the great suffering of the region’s residents as a result of the siege imposed on the region, and the terrorist threats that are still posed by Daesh through its sleeper cells, whose activity has significantly increased recently, coinciding with Turkish threats to launch a new military operation against the regions of northeast Syria.

During the meeting, the AANES delegation praised the initiative launched by hundred parliamentarians and members of the French Senate, including Mr Pierre Laurent, which calls for the imposition of a no-fly zone over the regions of northeast Syria to protect them from Turkish violations and threats, and calls for the official recognition of the AANES.

In turn, Senator Laurent renewed his solidarity and the solidarity of his colleagues with the AANES and the residents of northeast Syria, stressing the support and backing of the people and the majority of the French parliament members for the AANES and the Syrian Democratic Forces.

Mr Laurent pointed out that he, his colleagues and the French people highly value the struggle waged by the people of northeast Syria against Daesh, and other extremist jihadist organisations, adding that their struggle was in self-defense, and at the same time in defense of all humanity.

Mr. Laurent, also stressed that it is necessary to prevent any attack on northeast Syria, as it would cause humanitarian tragedies to the innocent population and destabilize security and stability, and only Daesh would benefit from such an attack if it occurred.
