On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, a delegation from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Mr. Nikolaj Harris, the Danish Special to Syria, arrived at the Al-Qamishli on a visit to north and east Syria.

They were received by Dr. Abdul Karim Omar the co-chair Department of Foreign Relations, the deputy co-chair, Abeer Elia, the member of the administrative body, Khaled Ibrahim, and Nafia Muhammad, the responsible for the presidential office.

Views were exchanged regarding the general situation in Syria, and north and east Syria in particular, and the challenges facing the Autonomous Administration, including the political, economic, and security challenges, in addition to the violations taking place in the occupied areas, including killings, rape, arrests, targeting the archaeological objects, and demographic change, especially Erdogan’s project which the new settlement of a million and a half in the north and east Syria will lead to conflicts between the components of the Syrian people, in violation of international laws, human rights, and the United Nations resolution for the refugee in 1951.


Omar said the Autonomous administration with the voluntary return if the appropriate conditions exist for them to return to their areas” of origin. The two sides also touched on the issue of ISIS fighters and the need for them so that justice can take its course, in addition to the situation in the Al-Hol and Roj camps and the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities towards its citizens.


Mr. Nicholas, for his part, stressed that the sacrifices made by the Kurds and the people of the region are respected and appreciated in Denmark, explaining that they discussed critical issues with the Autonomous Administration, such as the fighting against ISIS, and that the partnership and cooperation between Denmark and the Autonomous Administration aim to bring peace and stability to the region.
